Betty Moon Keeps Us Coming Back for More on “Strangely Beautiful”
Every once in a while, a project comes along that finds its way into your rotation and refuses to leave. Strangely Beautiful by Betty Moon has been exactly that for us here at Polaroid Audio. Released back in April, this six-track EP brings together rock, pop, and alternative influences in a way that feels effortlessly cool, a little rebellious, and entirely its own.
The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and producer has been making waves with her independent approach, and this project feels like a welcome return. Her first collection of original material since 2021’s Cosmicoma, the EP captures an artist stepping into a new chapter with plenty of confidence and creative freedom. Four original tracks written and produced by Moon showcase her ability to shape a sound that feels personal without sacrificing its infectious energy.
One of the project's highlights is her take on Portugal. The Man’s “Live in the Moment,” which brings a fresh perspective to an already beloved track. The EP finishes strong with Want Me To, a sultry, high-energy number that practically demands to be played loud. With its magnetic attitude and alternative-rock edge, it recalls the spirit of the ’90s scene that helped Moon build her following in Toronto.
There’s a real sense of personality running through Strangely Beautiful. It's bold, catchy, and refreshingly independent, reminding us that the best music doesn't need to follow anyone else's rules. Betty Moon has our attention, and this EP is staying in heavy rotation.
